Client: Waterways Ireland
As part of a joint venture with ESBI, Tourism Development International and Ferguson McIlveen have carried out a feasibility study on the reopening of the Ulster Canal. The study examines the engineering implications and associated costs of re-establishing the navigable channel and structures between the River Blackwater at Charlemont and Lough Erne, a length of 72km with 26 locks and over 80 bridges. A key objective of the study was to identify the potential for angling, walking and cycling in addition to the cruise market.
